Kelly Abeln (pronounced Abe-Lynne) is currently freelancing full-time from her home studio in Minneapolis, MN.
She works on a variety of illustration and design projects for clients. She regularly makes autobiographical comics, creates products for her online shop and makes lists of all the other things she wants to do.
Kelly received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Illustration with a concentration in Graphic Design from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design in 2009. In 2010 she was a graphic design intern at the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art and a graphic design fellow at Chronicle Books in San Francisco. From 2011-2018 she was a regularly contributing illustrator to the now retired girl culture website Rookie Mag. From 2012-2014 she worked as an in-house graphic designer for the eco-friendly cleaning brand Mrs. Meyer's Clean Day. She has been freelancing and working as a contract designer (YOXO Toys, Shop Class Creative, Treat & Company) since 2014.
In 2020 Kelly received a Minnesota State Arts Board Artist Initiative grant to develop a graphic memoir based on her experience of coming-of-age while caring for her disabled mom.
